About us

Introduction:

CSRC is a NGO registered at the District Administration Office, Sindhupalchok under the Society Registration Act 1978. It is also affiliated with the Social Welfare Council. The idea of establishing CSRC was conceived in 1993 by a group of young and energetic schoolteachers from Sindhupalchok district in order to change the existing pattern of elite-dominated power relations by organising and mobilising the marginalised groups of people, especially the tenants and farmers who have no, or nominal, land.

CSRC is a social based movement based organization which works directly with the poor and excluded people in order to establish a just and equitable society. Tapping the potentials and building a sustainable movement of tenants, landless farmers, Kamaiya, Haliya and other land-deprived men and women who have the capacity of bringing about real change is no easy task. CSRC has a long standing history of struggle and a very rich tradition of working with land deprived people, especially tenants and landless poor farmers. It focuses on land rights and social mobilization through the capacity building of deprived people of land rights.

CSRC is a membership-based organisation with 24 general members as of August 2008. The Executive Committee (EC) is elected by a General Assembly held every three years, which has the mandate to implement the policy decisions adopted by the General Assembly. CSRC membership consists of 40 percent women, 20 percent Janajatis, and 15 percent Dalits. The same pattern is reflected in the composition of the EC.

CSRC operates through three functional departments, namely campaign strengthening department; monitoring and documentation department; and finance and administration department. CSRC has in place financial and personnel management policies and systems, and has a clear separation of powers between the roles and functions of the Executive Committee and staff.

Vision
A Nepali society where everyone enjoys secured, free and dignified life.

Mission
CSRC's mission is to empower landpoor women and men and enable them to claim and exercise their basic rights, including right to land resources. To achieve the mission, CSRC implements programmes and projects aimed to build capacity of the rights holders (poor women and men), change and/or enact polices in favour of the landpoor, develop new/alternative models of land reform, and create and mobilize change agents at the community level in favour of pro-landpoor people.

Core Values

  1. Promotion and Protection of All Rights for All:
CSRC and the collaborating partners believe in the interdependence and universality of all rights, and work to realize them by all – women and men and elderly and young, including persons with disabilities – without discrimination on any grounds.
  2. Respect for Plurality and Diversity:
We see the diversity of Nepal as a source of richness, and promote it in the land rights movement. Plurality is the way to express this diversity both culturally and politically.
  3. Social Inclusion:
Inclusion of people of all socio-cultural walks of life in the process is, we believe, central to the fulfilment of the land rights of all. In the process, all women and men, elderly and youths, Dalits and the marginalized should be included for the sustainable solution to the problem.
  4. Promotion of Non-violence:
In our struggle, we are committed to non-violent means of protest and expression. We believe in the peaceful forms of social movements as a means to achieve sustainable outcomes. The land rights movement strictly follows and reinforces peaceful means.
  5. Institutional Good Governance (IGG):
We believe that fulfilling our aim of a transparent land administration cannot be realized without the commitment of CSRC and its partners to principles of IGG. Once we are value-based, we have the moral power to pressure and persuade the government into abiding by the principles of good governance, notably the principle of accountability and transparency.
  6. Democratic Decision Making and Implementation:
All the NGOs and NLRF involved in the land rights movement are committed to fundamental principles of democratic practices. The movement strictly reinforces these principles at all levels and in all activities it designs and implements.
  7. Strict Promotion of equality between Women and Men:
CSRC strictly promotes equality between women and men in all activities it implements, including in the ownership and control of land.
